About ncctp
The Network for Construction Collaboration Technology Providers (ncctp) has been formed by the UK's leading construction collaboration providers. Sarcophagus had previously developed "DocLink" a European Commission research project to permit corporate document management systems to be able to communicate with web based collaboration systems. This knowledge and expertise is being used by the ncctp to assist with the development of a standardised method of exporting project data between providers. The term "the collaborators collaborate" will be reality very soon and pave the way for improving communication best practice.
Sarcophagus founder and Chief Executive, Graham Howarth, was appointed as the ncctp's chairman for 2003/2004. Graham's response to this was, "The UK Construction industry needs a standard way of working to enable best practice and drive more waste out of the construction process. I believe the ncctp will be the driving force to achieve this aim whilst representing the interests of both users and providers of construction collaboration software. I am delighted to represent our industry and look forward to a challenging year ahead."
The ncctp's mission is to promote the benefits and use of collaborative technology in the construction and related industries. With the organisation now set on its mission, its members have defined their objectives, these are:
- To provide a means of understanding and representing the needs of end users of collaborative technology.
- Develop and implement an agreed set of data exchange standards between all members to enable bulk transfer of data (bale out, bale in) from any one system to another.
- Develop and implement an agreed set of data exchange standards between all members to enable routine transfer of information between systems for cross project working.
- To establish a group whose membership broadly represents the collaborative technology providers working within the construction industry and provides a vehicle to address generic market and technology issues.
- To provide an effective and efficient way for providers of collaborative technologies to engage with relevant construction industry initiatives.
- To fulfill these goals the organisation set itself activities such as research projects to identify, promote, seek funding and manage selected projects. Create an organisational website (www.ncctp.net) to initially provide basic information about the ncctp and collaborative technology as provided by the network members. Other activities were also devised and will be implemented throughout 2004, these ranging from group meetings, group events and workshops to publishing relevant group materials.
